Product Hunt Alternatives: 26 Places to Launch Your Product, Compared
Launch boards, maker communities, early-adopter lists and software directories, each checked for price, link type, review time and audience. Our last check was on November 5, 2026.
The best Product Hunt alternative is the one your users already read. For developer tools, that means Show HN on Hacker News, DevHunt and Peerlist Launchpad. For early adopters who like trying new startups, it means BetaList, Uneed, Fazier and similar launch boards. For people comparing tools before they buy, it means directories such as SaaSHub, AlternativeTo, G2 and AI tool directories.
We checked 26 places, most recently on November 5, 2026: what a listing costs, whether the link to your site carries nofollow, how long review takes when the site says so, and who reads it. Prices and rules change often, so treat the table as a dated snapshot and open the source before you pay.
How we checked the 26 launch sites
Every fact below comes from the site's own pages, read on November 5, 2026 unless a line gives an earlier date, with prices in US dollars as shown.
- Price is the cheapest way in and the main paid options. "Not public" means prices appear only in checkout or after sign-in.
- Link type is the
relattribute on the link from one or two public listings to the product's website.nofollowasks search engines not to pass credit through the link. Where a site states its policy, we quote it. Where a bot check or redirect hid the link, we say "not checked". - Wait or review time appears only where the site documents it.
- Traffic claims are left out. Visitor counts and "DR" scores are the sites' own, and we cannot verify them.
We did not launch a product on these sites for this guide.
For reference, launching on Product Hunt itself is "100% free", according to its launch guide. New launches go live at 12:01 AM Pacific. On a product page we checked on October 23, 2026, its Visit button carried rel="noreferrer noopener ugc". Our guide on how to launch on Product Hunt covers its rules step by step.

A few patterns stand out. Free places either cost you time, through a queue that can run for months, or a link, through a badge on your homepage. Paid tiers mostly buy a date, a better spot and a followed link. And the communities, which are free, are the places with the strictest rules.
Launch on boards that work like Product Hunt
These sites copy Product Hunt's format: a daily or weekly board, upvotes, comments and a badge for the winners. Most run a free queue and sell a way past it.
- Uneed puts free launches "at the back of the line", and they need "an upvote score of 10 to stay published, 20 for the do-follow backlink". Skip the line at $39.99 lets you choose your date.
- Fazier lists free products "within 30 days" if you add "a backlink to our site" on your homepage or footer. Paid plans are one-time, from $29.
- DevHunt is for developer tools. Its FAQ says: "Links on free listings are nofollow; paid launches get a permanent dofollow link." A launch costs $49 once.
- Peerlist Launchpad opens a launch window every Monday, and each launch runs for a week. You need a verified Peerlist profile, and "only the top 5 projects of the week are awarded a backlink".
- Open Launch said on November 5 that free slots were "fully booked into 2027". Premium costs $12 per launch.
- Smol Launch, LaunchIgniter and TinyLaunch offer free launches with a badge or in a queue, and paid launches from $12 to $39. Microlaunch sells Launch Pro at $49.
- Pitchwall, where betapage.co now redirects, has a free launch with a "minimum 30-day waiting period".

Post in maker and developer communities
Communities send the most engaged visitors and punish self-promotion fastest. Read the rules before you post, not after.
Hacker News. The Show HN guidelines say Show HN "is for something you've made that other people can play with". Sign-up pages, landing pages, blog posts and newsletters are off topic. "Please don't ask friends to upvote or comment." On the Show page on November 5, 16 of the 30 story links carried rel="nofollow". Hacker News does not document when it adds the attribute.
Indie Hackers. You can add your product to its products directory for free. The link to the product's website carried rel="nofollow noopener" on the page we checked.
Reddit. Each subreddit sets its own rules on self-promotion, so read the sidebar of every community you plan to post in. Reddit's sitewide rules ask you to "participate authentically in communities where you have a personal interest" and not to spam.
DEV Community. As of October 23, 2026, its terms bar content "designed primarily for the purposes of promotion or creating backlinks". Posts may not merely reference an external link. A tutorial that shows how you built something fits better than an announcement.
Lobsters. It is invite-only, and its about page says self-promotion "should be less than a quarter of one's stories and comments" in the last year. New users may not post self-promotion in their first 70 days.
Reach early adopters through startup lists
These sites feature new startups for readers who like to try things early.
- BetaList no longer has a free path. You pick a plan and pay, and only then does the startup enter review. Lite, Standard and Premium are featured within about 14, 3 and 1 days. Prices appear when you pick a plan, and declined submissions are refunded. Its FAQ says the Visit Site link on a featured listing is do-follow, through a 301 redirect.
- Launching Next says "Submitting to Launching Next is free". A $99 upgrade gets you considered "within 1-business day".
- Startup Fame, as of October 23, 2026, lists you free with a homepage badge. Its paid plans are monthly, and the link stays "while your startup remains listed".
- Twelve Tools reviews free listings "within 72 hours" if you link back.
- Tiny Startups hand-approves every listing. It shows prices only late in the submission form, so we list them as not public.
List in directories that keep sending visitors
A launch board gives you a day or a week. A directory listing keeps working while people search for your category or for a competitor's alternatives.
- SaaSHub is free. All products go through approval, and verified products get "higher priority".
- AlternativeTo is free and lists software next to the products it replaces. It "can't give you a date" for free review. A one-time priority fee, amount not shown, is "usually reviewed within 1-2 business days".
- OpenAlternative is for open-source software. Free submissions "wait in the regular queue", and a dofollow link starts with the $137 Premium plan.
- G2 lets you claim or create a profile for free. A new product is verified "in about 3-5 business days". Reviews matter more here than launch timing.
- AppSumo is a marketplace, not a listing. It charges "nothing upfront" and runs on revenue share, accepts "about 10%" of products, and does not take betas or consumer-only products.
- SideProjectors is a marketplace for showing, buying and selling side projects. Basic submissions are free.
If your product is an AI tool, there are dozens of AI-only directories with their own prices and rules. We cover them in where to submit your AI tool.
Judge a listing by its visitors, not its link
Many paid tiers above sell a "dofollow backlink". Google's guide to outbound links asks sites to mark paid links with rel="sponsored", or rel="nofollow", so do not count on a paid link for rankings. The same guide recommends rel="ugc" for user-generated content, the value Product Hunt used when we checked it on October 23, 2026.
Pay for a listing because its readers are people who might use your product, and check whether they arrived.
Choose three to five places for your launch
Each launch needs someone answering comments, so a short list beats a long one.
- Write down who your first users are and where they already read. A developer tool and a meal planner need different lists.
- Pick one community, one or two launch boards and two directories from the table.
- A week before launch, reopen each site's rules and pricing page. Free queues move: on November 5, Smol Launch's next free week was January 25, 2027.
- Make one tagged link per site with the UTM Builder, so your analytics shows which place sent sign-ups.
- Spread the launches over days or weeks, and be online for each one.
- Two weeks later, compare sign-ups and activation by source. Drop the places that sent nothing.
For the work around launch day, use the Product Launch Checklist and our launch checklist guide. For the text each site asks for, see how to write a product description for launch sites.

FAQ
What is the best free alternative to Product Hunt?
For developer tools, Show HN on Hacker News and Peerlist Launchpad. For other products, Uneed, Fazier, TinyLaunch and Pitchwall have free queues, and SaaSHub, AlternativeTo and Indie Hackers list products for free. Free queues can be long, so check the current wait before you plan around a date.
Do launch sites give dofollow backlinks?
Some do, often only for paid tiers, for top-ranked launches or in exchange for a badge. Of the links we checked, Indie Hackers and SaaSHub used nofollow, and Product Hunt used ugc on October 23, 2026. BetaList says featured listings get a do-follow link. Google asks that paid links carry sponsored or nofollow, so judge a listing by its visitors.
Is BetaList still free?
No. As of November 5, 2026, BetaList asks you to pick a paid plan before review, and shows the price when you choose one. Declined submissions are refunded.
