Markdown to Word & Google Docs
Paste Markdown, check the preview, and copy it with headings, lists and tables intact.
Runs in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.
The formatted text appears here: headings, bold and italic, lists, tables, quotes and code blocks.
Without a font, Word often pastes web text in Times New Roman.
LaTeX formulas stay as text, exactly as typed. To turn one into a real equation, paste it into the equation editor in Word or Google Docs.
Tables for Excel and Google Sheets
TSV keeps each cell in its own column when you paste into a spreadsheet. Formatting inside cells is dropped.
How to paste Markdown into Word or Google Docs
- Paste the Markdown into the left box. It can be an answer from ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini, a README, or notes from any Markdown editor.
- Check the preview on the right. It shows what the document will look like.
- Click Copy for Word / Google Docs.
- In your document, paste with Ctrl+V (⌘V on a Mac). Ctrl+Shift+V pastes plain text and throws the formatting away.
Assistants format their answers in Markdown, and their copy button often hands you that source. Pasted into a document, it turns into asterisks, hash signs and pipes. This tool converts it to formatted text first, so the paste keeps its structure.
What carries over
- Headings, which become real Heading 1–6 styles, so the navigation pane and table of contents pick them up.
- Bold, italic, strikethrough and links.
- Bulleted, numbered and nested lists, plus task lists as ☐ and ☑.
- Tables with borders, a shaded header row and column alignment.
- Code blocks in a monospaced font, and block quotes.
Pick a font for the pasted text. Without one, Word tends to show web content in Times New Roman. If an answer starts at ###, tick the heading option so its top level becomes Heading 1.
Limits
- LaTeX formulas stay as text. A formula like
\(x^2\)is pasted exactly as typed. Rendering math needs a large library, so the page does not load one. Word and Google Docs both have equation editors that accept the source. - Images become links. The preview does not load pictures from other sites, so an image appears as a link to its address.
- Raw HTML is shown as text. Tags inside the Markdown are displayed, not run, which keeps pasted content from running scripts on this page.
- Footnotes and other extensions beyond GitHub-flavored Markdown are left as plain text.
- Google Docs ignores background colors on code blocks; the monospaced font still comes through.

Is my text uploaded?
No. The conversion runs in your browser, and the text is not sent to a server or stored. Only your font and heading choices are saved in this browser.
How do I get a .docx file?
Download the .html file and open it in Word, then choose File › Save As › Word Document. LibreOffice can do the same. You can also paste into a blank document and save it.
Why was my table not converted?
A Markdown table needs a header row followed by a separator line such as |---|---|. Without the separator, the lines stay as text with pipes.
Does it work with answers from Claude or Gemini?
Yes. They use the same Markdown syntax as ChatGPT: hashes for headings, asterisks for emphasis and pipes for tables.
Can I paste into Outlook, Notion or a CMS?
Rich text editors that accept formatted paste usually keep headings, lists and tables. For a CMS that takes HTML, use Copy HTML and paste the code instead.
